What to Bring:

  • Water Bottle
  • Ball
  • Mask

When to arrive:

  • 20 minutes ahead of your start time to check in and get a photo taken

What to expect on TRYOUT DAY:

  • The tryouts will begin at the designated start time in either the upper or lower gyms in the Athletics building at Lakeridge High School
  • When you arrive you will check in and get an assigned number that you will use for both days
  • Your player will turn in that number at the end of their session to be used again on day 2
  • This is a CLOSED tryout run by our High School Varsity coaches and their staff. No parents, friends, or family members are permitted into the tryouts
  • We kindly ask that once your child's tryout begins that you leave and return at the pick up time so we can keep the crowds to a minimum
  • Masks are required for tryouts, but will not be in games during the season
  • Once tryouts are completed, your player will be waiting for you near the tryout check-in

  • Roster selections will be made within 24 to 48 hours and all families will be notified no later than Tuesday via email or text with a roster assignment. Families will have 24 hours to accept or decline. We want to ensure that we can accept as many players as possible. Therefore, acceptance of a roster position will require proof of registration/payment. The registration and payment link will be provided when rostered players are notified.

  • What if my player can only make 1 day of tryouts?
    • We are encouraging all who can make both days do so. Since we are lucky to have our coaches available to evaluate 2 days, it is okay if you can only make one of the days.

  • What if my player cannot make tryouts?
    • We use our tryout process to determine player skill and team fit. Without a player's evaluation data, we can't fairly place a player on a team where other players are competing for the same spot. This is especially important in age groups where there will be cuts.

  • What should my player do to get ready for try-outs?
    • Attend the clinics
    • Warm up. It's amazing how much difference 30 min of layups and free throw practice can help before attending tryouts, scrimmages and games.
    • Stretch
    • Bring a positive and focused attitude.
  • What are the behavior expectations of my player during tryouts?
    • Be positive and encouraging to other players trying out.
    • Work hard.
    • Stay focused and listen to the coaching staff instructions. Hold your ball while the coaches are talking.
    • Please, no goofing around. Remember, players are also being evaluated on their ability to participate in AND contribute to a competitive basketball environment.

Upcoming 2021-2022 Pacer Season

It's that time again when we gear up for our 2021-2022 basketball season and we are excited to say that all relevant Oregon government entities are indicating that we will be able to have a season. Unfortunately, the lost season has been incredibly hard on our basketball organization and we have a lot of rebuilding ahead of us.

On the topic of rebuilding, we have a number of vacancies on our basketball board. The following positions (2 year terms) are currently vacant or seeking a shadow to transition-in.

Treasurer (URGENT) - We are looking to replace our Treasurer ASAP. The current Treasurer will be available to ensure a smooth transition. Duties include paying bills (including coach pay), maintaining QuickBooks, organizing cash boxes for the Lakeside tournament and the TRL end of season tournament as well as providing records to the tax accountant for tax filings. A background in accounting is helpful but not necessary.

Scheduler - This position is responsible for scheduling games and will partner with another scheduler (our existing practice scheduler) to ensure our teams have access to the many different public and private school gymnasiums where games will be played.

Uniforms - This position is responsible for sizing, ordering and dispensing player and coach jerseys for the season.

Registrar - This position works closely with Community Schools and the players to ensure that everyone is properly registered and registration fees are paid before the season starts.

Three Rivers League Commissioner (President) - We are seeking a passionate and inspiring person to shadow the current president. This position leads our parent organization, The Three Rivers League (TRL). The TRL organization ensures that youth leagues from across the metro area have opportunities to play basketball in a safe, structured and appropriately competitive program.

**If you are interested or have questions about any of these positions then please text ‪(503) 342-8038‬.**

As our board works hard to finalize key season dates and do everything possible to reignite competitive basketball in our community, we need your help! Please spread the word to everyone, especially to the incoming 4th & 5th grade basketball families, that competitive basketball is back!

Get on our email list by texting ‪(503) 342-8038 or email loytba‬

New Coaching Annoucement

Last week, Lakeridge Athletic Director Nathan Stanley announced the new head boys basketball coach - Coach David Duong. Please find Nathan's announcement below and also an attached letter that Coach Duong sent specifically to the youth community.

We're thrilled to have Coach Duong join our Pacer family and look forward to a great relationship!

Your LOYTBA Board

Pacer Basketball Family,

I am pleased to be able to share with you that we have hired a new head basketball coach to lead the Lakeridge program. David Duong (pronounced "Zong") comes to us after serving as the JV Coach and Varsity Assistant at Central Catholic High School in Portland. Coach Duong brings with him over 10 years of coaching experience including stops at Gladstone, Molalla and notably as the Varsity Assistant at Clackamas High School when the team played in the state finals in 2018.

This was one of the most comprehensive processes that I have been a part of in my 18 years as a head coach as well as my 8 as an Athletic Director. Without being able to meet candidates in person, we felt it was important to try to create a process that was as thorough as possible. To do that, we used both student and parent surveys as well as a student-athlete listening session to help guide us throughout the process. Candidates were asked to provide video responses to prompts as well as breakdown scout video and complete a mock gameplan before we held the final round of interviews.

We are very excited to introduce Coach Duong as the new head coach of the Pacers! I will be scheduling a virtual meet and greet within the next few days. Thank you to everyone who has offered their support and advice throughout the process.

Please feel free to share this with any members of our basketball community who may be interested.

Nathan G. Stanley
Assistant Principal/Athletic Director
Lakeridge High School

Lakeridge Youth Parents,

I wanted to reach out and introduce myself as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach at Lakeridge High School. It is my strong belief that Lakeridge Youth Basketball is a cornerstone to a successful program at all levels. My goal is to build upon the tremendous sense of community that resides amongst the Lakeridge families. I envision a Lakeridge Boys Basketball Program that supports each other from top to bottom. Having the younger players learning from high school players/coaches and having our youth teams out to support our high school teams throughout the season. Through participation and supporting one another we will build a program that is connected to the entire Lakeridge community.

As we deal with these unprecedented times, I am unable to announce any concrete dates and times for upcoming youth basketball opportunities. What I can say is that when it is safe to do so we will schedule our Pacer Skills and Drills clinics, Youth Coaching clinics, and Pacer Youth Camp.

I'm extremely excited for the opportunity to get to know and work with the amazing youth, volunteers, and families of Lakeridge Youth Basketball. I am fully committed to working together and providing a Championship experience for all our athletes.

When it is safe to do so, I look forward to seeing you all at one of our camps or clinics!

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me. Go Pacers!
