TOURNAMENT TEAMS 4th - 8th

Season Overview
The season typically runs from November through February and is primarily composed of tournaments. We are targeting a minimum of 10 tournaments for our Gold teams and a minimum of 7 tournaments for our Silver teams. Each tournament event typically has a 4 game minimum. We expect practices to start in early November and tournaments to start in late November/early December. Teams that are invited to enter state championship tournaments will play into early March.

Players
This program is for 4th - 8th grade boys and girls players who live within the boundaries of Lakeridge High School and/or attends one of the feeder schools which are Hallinan Elementary, Palisades World Language Elementary, Westridge Elementary, River Grove Elementary and Lakeridge Middle School.

Practices
As with prior years, we want each tournament team to have two 90-minute practices each week.  Middle school grade teams may find themselves completing practice at 9:00 PM or 9:30 PM.

Gym space is always a big concern for us and we get creative with how we utilize practice space. This may result in teams practicing at Mountain Park Church or Riverdale schools, combining practices and the occasional weekend practice.

Games
Tournament games will be on the weekends. Over the course of the season, players should plan on at least 10 full weekends of tournaments for Gold and at least 7 full weekends of tournaments for Silver. Games are played on Saturdays and Sundays.  Because many of these tournaments are school fundraisers, parents and spectators should also plan to pay daily entry fees (generally $5 - 10) in order to watch the games.

Games and tournaments are generally played in the greater Portland area and surrounding suburbs. For example, this season we expect players to be in Lake Oswego, Tigard, Tualatin, Wilsonville, Canby and Portland for tournaments in addition to other cities. Teams may also go to Seaside, which hosts popular weekend tournaments throughout the winter. If teams qualify, they may also travel to Salem and Central Oregon for state championship tournaments.

Team Placement /  Tryouts
Tryouts are generally held in early October. Tryouts for the 2023-24 season have been completed.

Minimum Play Time During Season
There are minimum play time requirements.

Coaches are expected to maintain the following minimum playtime standard for each game.  These standards are intended for those players who the head coach observes as maintaining non-disruptive behavior and consistent game and practice attendance record. These standards apply for any game during a season (officiated or not) and any game during the year where Lakeridge Pacers jerseys are being worn.

* 4th and 5th grades: All players need to play at least 50% of the game and they need to play every game. (This is based on a 10-player roster, adjust as needed.)

* 6th, 7th and 8th grades: All players need to play at least 25% of the game and they need to play every game. (This is based on a 10-player roster, adjust as needed.)
